Taking centre stage in the glittering, gala evening at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, Halls received national recognition from the refrigeration and air conditioning industry and was crowned the winner of the coveted Environmental Product of the Year, sponsored by Ryan-Jayberg Limited. Halls’ revolutionary Rescroll process which effectively recycles, remanufactures and reuses old scroll compressors succeeded in the judges’ eyes as a “creative solution that makes both environmental and business sense”.
Chairman of the 11-strong independent judging panel and former president of the Institute of Refrigeration, Ray Gluckman, said: “New legislation and rising energy costs are setting a mainstream green agenda for our industry. I am delighted to report that we are rising to this challenge, responding with a wave of creativity – in technology and new approaches – that is transforming the industry’s impact on the environment.”
Terry Young, head of research and development at J & E Hall, said: “We are very pleased to receive this award. It pays tribute to the J & E Hall team that has worked hard behind the scenes to bring the Halltherm Rescroll to the market place. It is a remarkable piece of equipment.” Halls are proud of what has come to be called their “grave to cradle process” where it is possible to enter the main body of the scroll compressor, successfully remanufacture and close it. Mr Young added: “Thousands of scroll compressors are disposed of unnecessarily every year. This can be harmful to the environment and the new Halltherm Rescroll puts an end to this wasteful practice.”
